Bio
How can you describe an artist who has had multiple hit singles, performed for hundreds of thousands, starred in multiple T.V. shows, seen her music used in films (including an Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner), traveled to Afghanistan for Save the Children, performed in Brazil, China and Germany as a M.o.T. (Messenger of Truth) for the U.N.’s Habitat youth program and performed in the Arctic Circle for Nelson Mandela – all under her own terms?
There’s only one way to say it: SAMSAYA!!!
Born in India, raised in Norway with a stint in New York City, this singer, songwriter and consummate artist has always made her own way. She founded Lotus Records, which released her hit singles “ADHD (Love Me Not),” “Change” and “ Good with the Bad.”
Her travels and her constant curiosity for music and sounds led her to Stockholm to record with power production team Astma & Rocwell. Where she recorded her songs like ”Good With the Bad” and “Jaywalking”.
After a London call she found instant chemistry with producer Fred Ball. Together they produced her low fi, indigenous yet urban songs “Superhero” and “Breaking bad”.
And what a good idea that was! Her sound is the culmination of a life spent pursuing the perfect marriage of music and passion. Samsaya’s honest vocals and untamed expression is rare; she has been singing and writing songs since the age of 16.
“Sharing my emotions through my lyrics and vocals has provided not only a creative outlet, but also freedom,” she explains.
Her uniqueness has, at times, been the biggest challenge in the studio. “Protecting and digging deeper into my sound is an adventurous journey, with plenty of ups and downs. I’ve taken the ‘good with the bad’ and kept on writing and recording, and now I find myself ‘jaywalking’ through the music industry with all its do’s and don’t’s…”
Her exceptional songwriting skills recently brought her to the attention of publisher Air Chrysalis Scandinavia, which signed her to a worldwide deal. ”Immediately upon hearing Samsaya’s ‘Jaywalking’ I knew we had stumbled across a diamond.
After hearing more, I realized it was a whole mine full of diamonds,” says Ben Malén, Managing Director of Chrysalis Scandinavia & Germany. He continues, saying, “We are extremely happy that we were able to close adeal with Samsaya and we have a strong belief that she will seriously take on the world.”
And the world is exactly what this warm and compassionate, yet at the same time smart and powerful woman is capable of captivating.
But it will be strictly on her terms; with her exceptional integrity. Samsaya is honest with herself as only a truly creative soul can be.
“It took me time to listen to my own heart and be confident enough to just be me – and then to share that with the world,” she says. “Honesty, love, passion, belief… I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve. No Stereotype: It’s just me!”
